WB136050 An old Macallan by a french bottler

Famous Grouse and Macallan used to be Edrington owned. I came across a cask maybe a year ago of the blended malt. It had Macallan, Glenturret, Highland Park and a couple other malts in it and the pricing was super good

Good review but at £60 it's too pricey for me. Plenty of better options at that price not least the 10 year old CS for £55 here in the UK. I think prices are coming down to a more sensible level and this type of bottling should be well under £50 imo.

Here's a good fix for this spirit, which makes it exceptional. Drink about a dram. If you have 1792 small batch, add back the 1 1/2 dram. Amazing. Beautiful bourbon and fruit perfume. Thank me later

I live in Virginia and bought my bottle of the Dual Cask at the distillery. It was a gift for friends I was visiting and they enjoyed it. I purchased a bottle today as it was on sale at the ABC for $37 (normally $46). Like Jason, I add water to my whiskey to bring out the flavor. I've had other Virginia brands, but I tend to buy this one. It is a good sipper and friends enjoy it also.

I had a shot at a wedding. I must say it's better than Hibiki. 💯Loved it

Wow!! No wonder a big box liquor store by me discounted these by 38%. It is selling for $74 USD now’s It is an 11 year old bottled in 2022 that was also matured in a PX puncheon. They finally gave up on them.

How was the bourbon?

I'm a massive massive fan of the barrel strength rye and 10 year rye offerings - I know the price points are premium, but the quality is super premium in my opinion.

Dude why would you water it down to start with...review the whiskey as it is.

The things that are dug or cut in the wood are called letters and they are engraved. You let 25 year old whiskey breathe for 5 minutes and judge it. Then, as a benchmark, you use 18 year old whiskey, that's been breathing for a year? No, can't take you seriously.

I had a bottle that looked more like the one that Jason is holding. It’s the older bottling. It was surprisingly decent. Had sort of a buttered popcorn note. Bought a new style bottle and sadly it’s not good at all . Ordinary. Very much a mixer.

Jason, can’t find it here in the NE US. I have the Bunna CS 12 Batches 2021,22&23. The 23 has grown on me over the year. I understand it better now. At first not being another 22 was disappointing but over the year it has grown on me greatly having notes of both the 22 and 21. I heard they might not release a 2024 edition? Nice one Jason. Unfortunately this isn't available here in SoCal. The only sherry bomb I enjoy at the present is the Arran Sherry Cask... Younger but still good.

Ive got the Glentauchers and Linkwood versions so far and they are really good drams, ive got my eyes on a Glen Ord bourbon matured next!

Answer to your questin of the day my favorit under 100 usd sherry bomb cask strength whisky is Auchroisk 2010/2024 - 13y - Signatory 100 PROOF Edition #12 .it really is one of my favorite, and i promis last time that i’m talking about that bottle

Any of the sherry matured 100 proof series take the crown of aged stated (pseudo)cask strength whiskies to me.

Yes, Suntory Kakubin is so widespread and cheap. The Nikka 12, now without the age statement, is called The Tailored, which not so much to my liking. The Nikka Black is s good choice for a daily drinker -- $15 US -- and is apparently what one of Nikka's master blenders prefers. Within Japan Akashi has 4 and 5 yo single malt bottles (500ml--yeah I know) that I think are close to being under $100, but they are more outside of the country. In spite of the price rise, I would still recommend at least trying out Nikka Yoichi NAS and certainly Hibiki NAS as well as the Nikka 12 blended of old.

Nice to see Japanese Whisky get some attention. I can find Kaigan 12Y, The Shin 15Y Malt Whisky, and The Shin 10Y Malt Whisky for under $120. But I have never tried these. I have only had Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky, which I find delightful. Cheers!

living in the south of France, I don't drink whiskey in the summer. I much prefer to drink them in winter. And maybe that's why I prefer Miltonduff

You should have put the Johnnie Walker Aged 12 Years @ 40% abv or something better from Scotland and the Chamber Aged 12 Years @ 53% abv from Ireland both being blended whiskies along side the Nikka Aged 12 Years @ 43% abv for a three way blended whiskey contest

I lament the day Suntory Yamazaki 12 prices became prohibitive. Nikka from the Barrel is a go to blend for me. Ohishi Sherry Cask 8 year old rice whisky can be had for $65 here in SoCal, and it's quite good.

Thanks for reviewing these Jason. It's good to get reviews on accessible whisky. I have had most of these and not disappointed with any of them as yet. They are probably the best value whisky being offered since 2020 and I for one have been stocking up on them. It can't last forever and having a few dozen of these for future drinking seems a pretty good investment to me. I recently compared the Linkwood to the well liked Edradour Caledonia which is £25 a bottle more and didn't think there was much between them. I really liked the Mannochmore as well. Good stuff.

I’ve really enjoyed the Auchroisk with my friend. The dark, damp forest floor, mocha, coffee type notes are very interesting to both of us. The darkest tasting sherry cask matured scotch either of us have had before. It is also easy to understand why some don’t like this, as the notes are very austere.

Would love to buy some of 100proof series stuff but unfortunately it's not really available in my market.

I don't agree with you about the Auchroisk, I have it at home and it's just great. Apparently when you drink too much whiskey the taste buds are lost. And in my opinion it is much better than all the Irish whiskey you praise all the time...🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿>🇮🇪

I picked up the Secret Orkney #15 today. I look forward to your review of that. I am aware that Signatory just released another Secret Orkney under number #23, but I specifically chose #15 because it includes bourbon barrels. I expect the mix of bourbon and sherry barrels to be a better fit for HP.

Earlier this year Fred Minnick had an interesting video on the possibility and signs of the Bourbon/whisky bubble bursting.

Why not A for value? As you said yourself, Signatory is probably not making any money out of these.
